In brief

What is a mini split?

A mini split is a ductless heat pump: one outdoor unit connected to one or more indoor wall units. Each indoor unit heats and cools its own room or zone, runs quietly, and is one of the most efficient ways to condition spaces a furnace cannot reach, such as additions, basements, upstairs bedrooms, home offices and homes with no ductwork at all. It is also the main tool we use for climate balancing.

Benefits

Why Niagara homeowners choose mini splits

High cold-climate performance

Designed for extreme temperatures, with excellent efficiency through Ontario winters.

Precise zone control

Set each room independently. No more heating the whole house to warm one bedroom.

Quiet operation

Indoor units are whisper-quiet, and the compressor lives outside.

Efficient and cost-effective

Heat-pump efficiency at a fraction of the disruption and cost of a large HVAC retrofit.

Reliable components

Proven systems that we size, place and commission properly, then maintain.

Minimally invasive install

A small wall opening and a line set. No ductwork and no tearing up ceilings.

How it compares

Mini split, furnace or central air?

They are not rivals so much as tools for different jobs. A furnace and central air condition the whole house through ducts and suit homes with good ductwork. A mini split conditions one zone at a time, without ducts, and gives each room its own control.

That is why the two often work together. Keep the furnace for the base load, add mini split zones where the house struggles, and you get comfort in every room without oversizing anything. Our assessment tells you which combination fits, including when a mini split is not the right answer. See our furnace and air conditioning services for the ducted options.

Equipment

Senville and the systems we install

We work often with Senville mini split equipment, including the AURA series, and we maintain and repair most makes and models. Every system is sized by load calculation, not by the size of the room alone.

FAQ

Mini split questions

Do mini splits work in Canadian winters?

Yes. Mini split systems are designed for extreme temperatures and keep heating efficiently through Ontario winters.

Absolutely. Mini splits complement your central heating and take over the rooms the furnace cannot balance.

One problem room usually calls for a single-zone unit. Several rooms, or a whole floor, can share one outdoor unit in a multi-zone system. The assessment decides.

Pricing depends on room count, layout and electrical access. Request your in-home climate balancing assessment for exact pricing.

Mini split installs take about one day per head, depending on the install. Installation is fast, clean and minimally invasive, and we confirm timing for your home at your assessment.

Yes. We maintain and repair most makes and models, and preventative maintenance plans are available.

Programs change, so we check what applies to your home at the assessment. Ask us about available rebates and incentives for high-efficiency heat pumps.
